Reading In schools.

Each week teams of Club members read and listening to primary school pupils.  This year  we will have teams of four to five people visiting each of the following schools, Ngaio Primary School, Wainuiomata Intermediate, and, also in Wainuiomata, Arakura Primary School, for around 1 ½ hours each week to listen to a child read for 10 to 15 minutes.

The children are enthusiastic about reading to another encouraging adult and enjoy the opportunity to discuss the subject matter and, sometimes, how it relates to their lives.  Read more.

Weeding to Maintain Last Year’s Tree Planting – October 13 Cancelled. November 10 Planned
Nov 10 @ 9:30 am – 1:00 pm

We had scheduled a couple of Saturdays for the Rotary crew to come out and help maintain the previous years’ planting sites. The first  Saturday 13 October has today, Friday October 12, has been cancelled due to weather, so we are left with Saturday 10 November to do some weeding, to ensure the native plants have a chance to outgrow the grass and blackberry. They’re already starting to get swallowed by the long grass. We’ll be meeting at the Vice Regal Playground at 9.30am on November 10, and we’ll bring gloves, pruning shears and loppers
