Peer Support In Secondary Schools

For some years the Rotary Club of Wellington North have supported the Peer Support programme at St Mary’s School.    The grant from Wellington North this year was spent on course materials some of which will be used in future years.

Peer support is a Secondary School programme which seeks to assist the integration of new students into a school.

Senior students (year 12 & 13), after training by Tutor teachers, are allocated (usually in pairs) to a small group of year 9 students.  During the specified time allocation within the school programme they confer with these students on issues about settling into the school, or peer pressure, bullying,  how to deal with cultural issues or similar aspects.
