GSE (Group Study Exchange)
The Rotary Club of Wellington North has a great tradition in recent years of participants in this Rotary Foundation programme. The GSE Programme consists a team of 4 young professional people plus a Rotarian Team Leader undertaking a vocational study tour of between 5 to 7 weeks to another Rotary District (see the Rotary web page for more details)
In 1996 Warwick Bell, an architect, now a Wellington North member, joined the team to District 1160 being the whole of Ireland and Northern Ireland. A hospitality architect the visit included numerous visits to Irish pubs!
Then in 1997 Mark Thomas, then working for Electricorp went to District 2000 Switzerland whilst in 1998 Judith Bond was selected to go to District 7820 Eastern Canada.
1999 saw Karl Davis, then working for the National Bank travel to District 2390 in Sweden.
In 2004 Peter Dixon represented the Club on the exchange to District 5040 in British Columbia, Canada. This was a themed exchange around literacy, with Peter who manages a graphic design agency looking at graphic literacy. Below is a selection from the photo-record of the tour. More recently Past President Henry Davies, Manager with Westpac journeyed to District 6950 in Florida as team leader. A very detailed programme saw the team visit to Cape Canaveral and undertake a cruise to the Bahamas whilst attending the District Conference .
Throughout its life as a club Wellington North has been please to support a large number of visiting GSE teams as host, providing transport, arranging functions and contacts with Government and corporate institutions. Members of the club have also supported the programme through service on both the Inwards and Outwards District GSE Committees.
